Cruising areas for dinghy trips
Every cruising area has its own character. For a trip in a small dinghy, beautiful scenery is only one consideration: wind, waves, safe alternatives, access to shore and local regulations matter just as much.
From inland waters to the coast
Lake Müritz and the Mecklenburg lake district may offer ideas for longer inland journeys. The Schlei and other sheltered waters in Schleswig-Holstein combine sailing with a range of possible stops. Lake Constance, rivers, Bodden lagoons and suitable coastal areas may also be interesting. The right route always depends on the boat, crew, weather, experience and local conditions.
Look beyond Germany, too
The IJsselmeer, Danish waters and other nearby areas may appeal to experienced dinghy cruisers. Local regulations, weather, water temperature, rescue options and the demands on boat and crew should be checked carefully.
Keep the route flexible
A trip does not need to be planned down to every overnight stop weeks in advance. A rough route with realistic daily legs, sheltered alternatives and possible exit points is useful. When several boats travel together, agree on communication, how long to wait for one another and when each crew makes its own decision.
Build local knowledge together
Jollenwanderer Deutschland is a place to exchange experience and questions about cruising areas. Which places work well as stops? Where are safe alternatives? What rules apply to anchoring and overnighting? Which areas would you like to explore together?
